Main lines of research
Our strategic objective is to produce relevant infor- mation to support clinical and population-based policies aimed at controlling CVD. The results of our studies have been explicitly incorporated into the National Strategy for Ischemic Heart Disease Con- trol, the National Strategy for Obesity Prevention and Control, and the National Strategy on Disease Prevention and health Promotion, elaborated by the Ministry of Health. Moreover, our research results have also supported the development of clinical guidelines in this field; specifically, the guidelines of the Spanish Society for Arterial Hypertension, and guidelines of the Spanish Society of Family Medi- cine, the leading society devoted to primary health care in Spain.
Our main research themes are:
• Determinants and consequences of frailty in the older adult.
• Improvement of diagnosis and prognosis of the patient with hypertension and heart failure.
• Diet and physical activity as determinants of obe- sity and cardiovascular risk in the elderly.
