Scientific Programmes
P1. Epidemiology and Control of Chronic Diseases
Over this year the programme has kept up its co- operation work, in which all its groups have been involved. A large number of cooperation schemes have also been set up with other CIBERESP pro- grammes, with other CIBERs and with thematic col- laborative research networks, as well as with con- sortiums financed with European projects.
studies. In 2015 twelve scientific articles were pub- lished. Some of the significant results obtained were the influence of night-shift work on breast and pros- tate cancer (Papantoniou et al. Eur J Epidemiol and Papantoniou et al. Int J Cancer), the association be- tween diabetes and type of anti-diabetes treatment with breast cancer (García-Esquinas et al. Acta Dia-
In 2015 the foundations were laid for preparing a new strategic programme, intended for the genetic screening of chronic disease, which will be submit- ted for assessment by the CIBERESP Management Committee in 2016.
Work has also gone on with the measures in the MultiCase-Control (MCC) strategic sub-programme for Cancer in Spain. The study includes around 7500 cases of colorectal, breast, prostate, stomach cancers and chronic lymphatic leukaemias (CLL) as well as 3500 population controls. A massive genetic analysis using the Illumina Exome Array has been completed, to which specific variants of genes of interest have been added. The MCC is also taking part in the following international consorti- ums: PRACTICAL/ prostate; BCAC/breast; STOP/ stomach; Interlymph and ICGC/CLL; Exposomics/ colorectal; breast cancer shift work case-control
betol), the effect of perinatal and childhood factors on breast cancer (Lope et al. Cancer Epidemiol), se- roreactivity against different types of virus and its association with CLL (Casabonneet al. Infect Agent Cancer and Robles et al. J Gen Virol) and the levels of persistent organic contaminants in healthy popu- lation (Fernández-Rodríguez et al. Sci Total Environ). Many researchers from the project have presented results at national and international congresses.
In 2015 two meetings held in Barcelona were ar- ranged, as well as the annual meeting. A specific meeting on genetic analysis was held, developing guidelines for analysing this data at MCC. Finally, three new projects have been obtained in the FIS 2015 call for carrying out follow-up of patients ini- tially recruited.
