Main lines of research
• Vaccine preventable diseases
The group of the National Center of Microbiology is the national reference laboratory for measles
and rubella as recognized in the corresponding national plans for elimination and accredited by the WHO. Moreover, diagnostic techniques for other vaccine preventable diseases (mumps, pertussis
or chickenpox) were studied in the context of specific programs of microbiological surveillance. Additionally to this official activity, the group currently keeps research activity in the following aspects: - Development and evaluation of diagnostic methodologies for measles virus (MeV, mumps virus MuV) and Rubella virus (RuV), and Bordetella pertussis.
- Sero-epidemiology of MeV, RV and MuV.
- Molecular epidemiology of MeV, MuV and RV.
- Sero-epidemiology of pertussis.
- Sero-epidemiology of influenza.
• Rabies and another bat-associated viruses.
The group of the National Center of Microbiology is officially recognized as national reference laboratory for several zoonoses, including rabies in humans and suspected animals. Additionally to this
