Highlights
The project “Effectiveness of the pertussis vaccine in pregnant women in the third trimester in preventing pertussis: a case-control study in Catalonia and Navarre” (FIS PI15/01348) commenced on 1st January 2016, with the participation of CIBERESP groups 01, 11 and 12. The PI is Dr Godoy and the project will last until 2018.
During 2016, we have worked on the dissemination of the results of the project “Effectiveness of the influenza and 23-valent polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccines in persons aged = 65 years” (FIS PI12/02079), with the participation of CIBERESP groups 01, 04, 11, 12 and 17. Two lectures were presented at the Tenth World Congress on Vaccines, Immunisation and Immunotherapy in Switzerland and seven scientific articles have been published.
Financing was obtained from the Carlos III Health Institute convocation of Health Research Projects for the project “Factors associated with outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis due to norovirus in closed and semi- closed institutions” (PI16/02005). The PI is Dr Domínguez.
The Scientific Workshop entitled “Pertussis: an emerging disease?” took place on 17th October 2016, with 168 participants and 12 lecturers (8 from CIBERESP), including Dr Helen Campbell, a Public Health England expert on vaccine-preventable diseases.
Internationally, Dr. Domínguez participated as a member of the Viral Hepatitis Prevention Board, a platform for the dissemination of scientific information about hepatitis.
Dr. Domínguez was named a member of the Advisory Council of Public Health for 2016-2019. This is the consultative body on the technical and scientific aspects of public health in Catalonia.
In October 2016, Dr. Domínguez presented one lecture at the Scientific Workshop entitled “Influenza vaccination and healthcare workers: Practice and Ethics” for the Health Sciences Foundation in Madrid. Dr. Domínguez was the Director of three doctoral theses, of which one was for an International Doctorate. All three received the qualification of Outstanding Cum laude.
