Main lines of research
• Genetic Epidemiology
Our research in the field of genetic epidemiology is focused primarily on identifying genetic polymorphisms as susceptibility markers of cancer risk associated with the study of drug consumption, colorectal cancer, and development of a predictor of individual risk based on the combination of multiple genetic polymorphisms associated with cancer. In this line, we also develop new biostatistical and bioinformatics methods.
• Molecular diagnosis of cancer
Within the area of molecular diagnosis of cancer, our research focuses on the identification of biomarkers useful for the early diagnosis of colorectal cancer. The domains of interest include genomics, proteomics and epigenetics. We believe that genomic regulatory networks are useful for the identification of new markers.
• Prognostic markers and therapeutic response prediction
We have series of colorectal cancer patients well characterized from a clinical point of view, with a long follow-up and prospective data collection. These series are useful to identify prognostic markers, prediction of therapeutic response and toxicity of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
